Margan 2019 Albarino
Andrew Margan was the first to plant this white variety in the Hunter Valley. Albariño originates from Rías Baixas in the Galician region of North West Spain. Like the Hunter, this region is classified as warm maritime and its wines are low in alcohol and acid focused, typical of Hunter Valley whites. The wine is characterized by its high natural acidity, minerality and zesty fruit.
The 2019 vintage had perfect ripening conditions with dry, warm days paired with cooler nights resulting in beautifully ripe and healthy fruit which we picked in mid January. After minimal skin-contact we fermented the juice in stainless steel tanks using a small amount of solids and wild yeasts. Extended lees contact post fermentation resulted in a textural complex wine.
Tropical fruit and spice, succulent acidity with a lingering finish and lifted citrus characteristics. Enjoy now as an aperitif. It will develop beautifully over the next 3 to 6 years and live a bit more after that.
