Spent a couple of hours with Neil and shared stories over a number of very excellent gems and having discovered these gems they are a treasured addition to the cellar. A very easy and relaxed atmosphere to enjoy both Neil's excellent wine knowledge and nostalgic travel stories.
Wine House was the prefect venue for a milestone birthday lunch for 21 people. The chef and staff were generous with their time in the planning, and the execution was outstanding. The food was beautiful and suitably celebratory, the wines were quality, and the cake, made, decorated and personalised by the chef, was stunning. Everyone was very, very happy. Thanks a million to all involved.
Not only did we love going to the tasting on a hot day – it was cool and lovely underground! – but our host (? Bartender? Wine steward? Sommelier?) Matthew was absolutely lovely. I explained that I didn’t know a lot about wine and was learning, so he helped me understand everything that we tasted. As we made our way through our flight of wines and he started to see what my husband and I preferred, he pulled out some special suggestions for each of us. Highly recommended. Ask for Matthew. :-)
We dined here mid week for lunch as we’d heard it had been revamped and lots of people recommended it. What an improvement since we’d last been here. The decor is much improved as is the menu and wine list. Lots of shared plate options, we chose the trout salad, pork belly and bowl of fries( possibly the best fries I’ve ever tasted) and the food was delicious! Wine list has loads of local offerings, which we thought was wonderful, and lots of by the glass options at really good prices. We’re pretty fussy and we were really happy with what we got. Service was great and you have a lovely view over the lake to watch kangaroos hopping around, thoroughly recommend!
As a couple of girls who live locally and visit the Hunter Valley regularly there aren’t too many places we haven’t tried. Neither of us had ever been to The Small Winemakers Centre & the rebranding as Winehouse caught our eye. The cellar door we had been to on the stop before recommended we call in & ask for Neil, and having loved their cellar door we took their advice. Neil definitely was the icing on the cake of our visit. After trying a few wines he got a feel of our tastes and offered us some wines that he thought would suit our tastes that weren’t on the list. He was absolutely on the mark and after hearing we were headed somewhere else for lunch he convinced us to stay there instead for some share plates. We headed off into the lounge for a bite to eat while Neil packed up our purchases and we were equally impressed with the food. A must visit stop on your hunter valley journey, Wine House ticks all the boxes. Thanks especially to Neil who made our experience top notch!

This was an exquisite, tasteful new establishment that offered rewarding attention from our host Matt, who served us a seriously delightful tapas style buffet, coupled with table samplings of the very commendable array of whites & reds – particularly one red that was a combination of shiraz and I think pinot grapes, but I chose the pleasantly fresh and crisp Silkman chardonnay, the best of several varieties. I must stress the attention by the staff was one that left you felling welcome and refreshed without any pushiness. They were sharing this very tasteful personal excursion. The beautiful view to the lake directly to the rear of the dining area fitted perfectly into the display of art work and furnishings to create a truly resonant environ. A very special experience that rewarded us with an escape from the heat of the day, with a truly enjoyable sojourn. Highly recommended
Have dined here before but the improvement to the venue is outstanding. The service by Alex was impeccable as was Rachel’s. The chef Roz was brilliant and the food was delicious. Can recommend this to others don’t miss out on the wines either. Come one come all and enjoy! A must do in the Hunter now.
