The grape takes its name from the Italian ‘pecora’ meaning sheep because the vines grew along the route the shepherds took as they brought the sheep down from the mountains in central Italy (or so the story goes!).

Continuing their pioneering role in alternative varieties, in 2021, winemakers Ian & Suzanne Little produced one of the first Pecorino wines in Australia.  Pecorino’s characteristically thick skins, lower water requirement and retention of acid make it innately suited to our Hunter Valley climate.

The wine has a deliciously crisp, crunchy palate with delicate pear and red apple flavours.
