Hart & Hunter 2019 Limited Release Chardonnay
A beautiful, lighter style of Chardonnay from winemakers Damien and Jodie. Packed with florals, white spice and dried herbs on the nose. On the palate it is an unctuous, totally textural wine, with almonds and butterscotch and an underlying lovely citrus line of acidity.
Picked off several small parcels of outstanding Chardonnay blocks within the Hunter Valley, the Limited Release Chardonnay encompasses purity of fruit and outstanding quality.
After a warm and dry spring with low winter rains 2019 was the third consecutive drought vintage, meaning lower yields across but a definite increase in palate weight and flavour profile. Crushed and then slowly fermented in a mix of new and 1 year old small and large format French oak. Batches of wild ferment and solids components were blended back with a small unoaked portion to give the wine a great textural component balanced with a backbone of acidity and structural oak tannins. After ferment the wine was left to sit on lees for approximately 6 months which has given lovely restraint and finesse, along with subtle funky barrel ferment characters.
