Hart & Hunter 2017 The Remparts Semillon
From the beautiful Remparts Vineyard and after an incredible year of extremes, a delightful wine ready for the summer. A vintage of excessive heat, with multiple days above 45 degrees every month at the beginning of the year. This has meant lower yields across all of our varieties, but a definite increase in weight and flavour profiles.
Provenance & Winemaking
Located off Broke Road at the western end of Pokolbin, the Noble Domain vineyard has approximately 3 acres planted across fine sandy loam soils, which this year have encouraged a powerful textural wine. Always a little more generous on the palate this vineyard tends to produce riper characters, whilst allowing the natural acidity to reap its own rewards. A hand picked vineyard, on a mighty hot day, we get straight into it and process the fruit directly into cold tanks. The making of great Semillon really happens in the vineyard, and our focus is always in first selecting the best parcels of fruit, but then preserving that purity once in the winery. We achieve this by utilising
neutral yeasts, and running cold slow ferments.
Bright and sassy, the 17' Remparts is a crowd pleaser, having always done well on the Wine Show circuit over the years. Showing the typicity of the vineyard in weight and minerality of flavour, and lushness of fruit, the 2017 is no exception. A delicate blossom balances the lime zest on the nose, while the palate is rich and powerful. It carries some lovely tight phenolics which just add to the beautiful mouth feel and moreishness of the wine, making you reach for another glass!
Winemakers Damien and Jodie are enjoying the Remparts with pulled pork on brioche buns with slaw. Simple and so flavoursome.
An amazing wine drinking now, but definitely leave it in the cellar if you can for 10 years or so.
